The Events programme at Queen Mary Students’ Union is integral to the student and staff experience and Queen Mary University of London, providing a platform to socialise showcase the great work that takes place at QMUL, and often celebrate successes. With a successful events and hospitality, programme consisting of over 600 bookings per annum, from basic coffee provision to gala events, wellbeing walks to large scale club nights, there is a fantastic platform for an Events Coordinator to come in and make their mark.
Queen Mary Students’ Union represents and supports over 28,000 students and around 4,500 staff who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at Queen Mary, University of London. The role is primarily based on our Mile End Campus of the University, which is close to both Mile End and Stepney Green Underground Station, although work on our other campuses and external areas, is also expected.
The Events Coordinator’s primary role is to be one of the first points of contact for our booking enquiries. Working with the Head of Venues and Hospitality and Venues administrator, you will take a lead on our bookings from the point of enquiry to the point of operational handover. In addition, you will be expected to operationally assist in the delivery of high-quality events and activities to our student body. To manage the administration behind the events, ensuring they appeal to our student groups who are less engaged. You will also need to guide our chosen student staff in our social media content, website growth and provision of events ticketing, all of which will include full site training.
You should be a person who is committed to the values of the organisation, being a safe, friendly environment with the student experience at its core, but with an ability to see projects through from start to finish. This role’s hours would be predominantly Monday – Friday but would require occasional evening and weekend work.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and can work with a wide range of people. Candidates must have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines.
The post is a permanent post with a starting salary of £33,263 per annum inclusive of the London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus additional college closure days which include bank holidays and additional days over the Christmas period, defined benefits pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan and membership of the Sport and Fitness Centre.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
