About the Role

The University of Buckingham is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Domestic Welfare Assistant / VC Housekeeper to join our Estates team. This unique and varied role combines high standards of domestic cleaning with a strong focus on student welfare and support, helping us to deliver a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for all. As a key member of the Domestic Welfare Team, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness across campus facilities and student accommodation, while also offering a friendly and approachable presence to students and staff. In addition, you will provide tailored domestic support to the Vice Chancellor’s residence, including event preparation and household assistance. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys helping others, and values being part of a community-focused organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality cleaning services across university buildings, including teaching spaces, common areas, and student accommodation.
  • Carry out household cleaning, ironing, and hospitality support at the Vice Chancellor’s residence.
  • Engage warmly and respectfully with students, offering informal welfare support and signposting as needed.
  • Participate in daily team briefings, logs, and audits to ensure consistent and responsive service delivery.
  • Support university events with domestic preparations such as table setting and general housekeeping.
  • Follow all health, safety, and COSHH guidelines and use cleaning equipment in line with training and regulations. What We’re Looking For
  • A friendly, approachable individual with a strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to high standards.
  • Previous cleaning or facilities experience is desirable, but not essential – full training will be provided.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with students and colleagues.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning safety practices (e.g. COSHH), or willingness to learn.
  • A team player who is also confident working independently.
  • Discreet, professional, and adaptable – especially when working in sensitive environments such as the VC’s residence.

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a welcoming and supportive campus community.
  • Make a meaningful difference to the student experience.
  • Be part of a respectful, inclusive team that values your contribution.
  • Access ongoing training and development opportunities.
