We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

The Role
We are looking for a compassionate and resourceful colleague who will be responsible for assessing and administering applications for discretionary hardship funding. This will involve having an open-minded, problem-solving approach to your work coupled with an empathetic nature.

Your role would involve reviewing eligibility for funding including emergency loans, answering queries about discretionary financial support, providing basic financial advice and guidance to students, preparing hardship outcome letters, and administering payments. You will also be involved in data preparation for reports and returns as well as some event organisation for presentational events.

The work predominantly involves telephone and email contact with students, but also some face-to-face interviews. Therefore, we are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills. To succeed in this role, you should bring with you an understanding of the finance issues faced by our students and be passionate about wanting to support.

The Student Health & Wellbeing Service provides information, advice and guidance on a wide range of support issues. The Student Health & Wellbeing Service has been designed to enable students to maximise their potential whilst at university. The service is free, confidential and available to all students. You will work within the Student Financial Support Team under the direction of the Manager. The team administers a diverse range of funding schemes with overall spend of approximately £13-14m per annum.  You will operate within a team of 14 (12xFTE and 2xP/T) alongside two counterparts.

Due to the student facing nature of the team and service it is necessary for team members to spend most of their time on campus, though there will be the opportunity to work remotely.

If this sounds like you please reach out to Emma Ingrouille (Manager, Student Financial Support Team) at Emma.Ingrouille@ncl.ac.uk.

To apply please upload your CV along with a covering letter evidencing how your skills and experiences align to the person specification as outlined in job description. Please also complete answers to the mandatory questions. Full job description can be found here.
