Salary:

Grade 8 Full time starting salary is normally in the range £47,389 to £56,535 with potential progression once in post to £63,606

Grade 9 Full time starting salary is normally in the range £58,225 to £67,468 with potential progression once in post to £87,974

Background

The School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, UK, seeks to recruit talented computer scientists from diverse backgrounds for the role of Assistant or Associate Professor. Successful candidates will join a vibrant School, regarded as one of the best in the UK in academic research, societal impact and education. This round welcomes applications from enthusiastic academics from any area within computer science, to strengthen, collaborate with and expand the main research themes in the School. Successful candidates will join in pursuing collaborative, challenge-led, research based on interdisciplinary research funding and in further improving diversity and inclusion in computer science research and education. New staff will also benefit from a programme of dedicated support for career development through Birmingham’s Academic Development Programme.

Members of the Computer Science collaborate with others in many other Schools and Centres. The following University centres are particularly relevant:

The Birmingham Centre for Cyber Security and Privacy is recognised by EPSRC/NCSC as a UK Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research, conducting outstanding research in cyber security and privacy. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to applied cryptography, hardware-based security, embedded systems security (including automotive security), side-channel and fault-based attacks and security protocol analysis.

Role Summary

The role holder will be based in Edgbaston. The key duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to: giving lectures and seminars and supervising undergraduate / post-graduate students, course development and innovation, taking an active part in examinations, carrying out innovative research and writing papers on topics relevant to the specialist subject area (this will include journals, books and other material), and obtaining research grant funding.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant specialist subject area, as well as postdoctoral experience. We are looking for candidates who will actively contribute to our portfolio and community, through pursuit of research that will bring new opportunities, synergies, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will also have a track record in teaching at a higher education institution.

Appointments will be made at either an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level please specify which role you are applying for in the application.
