Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, Mansfield College
The Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, Faculty of Law is seeking to recruit a Communications Officer, supporting all aspects of internal and external communications at the Institute.
Reporting to the Institute Manager, the post holder will support the Institute’s Director, Head of Research, Programmes Manager and Principal Investigators (PIs), researchers and academics based at the Institute. The post involves working with a wide variety of people, within the Institute, the Faculty and externally, offering a range of opportunities for collaborative work. The Communications Officer will also be a member the wider communications team at the Faculty of Law, led by the Head of Communications. There will be opportunities to attend training and career development programmes, with a view to practically apply this acquired knowledge while in post.

The overall purpose of this role is to create and implement a communications strategy for the Bonavero Institute as it enters the next phase of its development. The postholder will ensure day-to-day delivery of a range of communications activities aligned with the strategy; demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills; participate in collaborative decision-making regarding communications and conduct detailed evaluation and analysis of communications tools and practice that enable ongoing improvement and enhance meaningful engagement with all stakeholders. This might include producing and editing reports (such as the Annual Highlights report) and factual documentation to support informed decision-making for future communications initiatives.
The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent; experience in content writing for digital platforms; demonstrable experience of the use of social media in an equivalent professional setting; ability to assess existing communication channels for effectiveness and suggest alternative or new methods for broader dissemination; ability to analyse complex research content and extract key themes or insights that can be communicated clearly to a wider audience and have experience of using content management systems for websites. Experience of communicating research or policy in one or more of the areas relevant to the project: e.g. human rights, climate change, modern slavery and working within a large and complex higher educational setting is desirable.
This is a permanent, part -time role (0.5 FTE) and the postholder will be based at the Bonavero Institute for Human Rights, Mansfield College, Oxford. The Law Faculty supports hybrid working, and currently requires staff to be on site at least 40% of their working week.
