We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Music with specialism in music composition for soundtracks (both technical and creative), and with vision and passion to join an established music team within an ambitious and vibrant Music Department, situated at the heart of our School of Creative Arts, UH.
Main duties and responsibilities
The role holder will primarily be delivering engaging and relevant content for undergraduate and postgraduate students on our ‘Film and Games’ awards, covering related theoretical aspects (the language / narrative of music & sound for the moving image) as well as the practical application (ie. linear composition for media) however, an ability to extend coverage into related applications for interactive games / entertainment is highly desirable (ie. non-linear).
The postholder will be a key member of the Music Department and the School of Creative Arts, and will play an active role in delivering an exceptional student experience, and carrying out the functions and responsibilities of the Music Department and School, upholding the professional ethos of the University and sharing in the corporate responsibility for the academic well-being of our students.
Skills and experience required
The postholder will ideally have relevant teaching experience at HE level with an ability to communicate and engage students effectively. They will possess significant breadth and depth of specialist practical, technical and theoretical knowledge relating to music composition for the moving image, and may also have an understanding of interactive applications (such as music and sound for entertainment / games). They will be adaptable to workload and team requirements. The successful candidate will have an ability to work effectively on own initiative and as part of an established music team.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. You will have a Postgraduate qualification i.e. Masters and/or PhD (completed or close to completion, e.g. has submitted final thesis) in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience.
