We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated flow cytometry expert to join Babraham Institute’s cutting-edge Flow Cytometry Core Facility as a Deputy Manager.  The Flow Cytometry Core Facility offers a high-quality service and state-of-the-art instrumentation to members of Babraham Institute and external companies, including those based on the Babraham Research Campus.  

The post holder will deputise the Head of the Facility in providing a smooth and reliable cell sorting and analysis service to researchers. Duties will include maintenance of instrumentation, operation of cell sorters, training of staff and users of the core facility.  A key part of the role is driving cytometric technology with the core and Institute and scientific involvement with projects. The post holder will contribute to day-to-day management of the facility, support the scientists using a range of cytometers and cytometry techniques.  Consultations with scientists about their projects is a key part of this role, including attending relevant seminars and lab meetings, advising on experimental design and data analysis. 

You will be asked to become closely involved with projects from both in Institute and external companies. Projects using Image Cytometry and Spectral flow cytometry analysis will involve collaborative work with the scientists, especially with panel design and data analysis, including multi-dimensional data analysis.  The post holder may be asked to represent the Flow facility and Babraham Institute at meetings and courses nationally and internationally.  There will also be the opportunity to work with cytometry companies to beta-testing equipment and evaluate equipment for use within the Facility.  Using their expertise, the post-holder will be expected to help teach, train and mentor members of the flow core and other scientists. 

This position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to work within a dynamic team, to develop a career in cytometry and to make a real contribution. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience of working in a Flow Cytometry Core Facility using a range of cytometers and must have experience of using a cell sorter preferably sense-in-air and Cuvette based systems.  Experience in analysis of complex data sets using software such as R, viSNE, OMIQ and FlowJo would be advantageous.
