Do you enjoy supporting others in learning technical skills and bringing creative ideas to life? Are you looking to transition your industry experience into a more student-facing, education-focused role? University of the Arts London, School of Pre-Degree Studies is seeking an expert to join our Wood Workshop as a Specialist Technician.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting a diverse range of home and overseas students learning across pre-degree programmes, providing expert instruction in our Wood Workshop, and helping students bring their creative ideas to life.
Working closely with course directors and curriculum leaders, academic staff, and fellow technicians, you will deliver specialist technical guidance and teaching to students through demonstrations, coaching sessions, and one-to-one support. You will contribute to feedback and insights into student projects, helping to refine their creative process and develop practical proficiency in wood with highly specialist techniques, production methods and technology.
You’ll also take responsibility for maintaining a safe and inspiring technical environment. This includes supporting Health & Safety compliance, equipment maintenance, stock control, and contributing to exhibitions and events.

Your profile
You will need a relevant qualification (BA level in Art or Design) and/or equivalent industry qualifications, experience or certification that demonstrates the required level of technical knowledge or equivalent in job experience.
A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and its application in a technical learning environment is also essential.
An Enhanced DBS check is also required for this role.
