The Role

We are looking for an experienced manager to act as a Duty Manager to provide an excellent library service during extended opening hours. 

In this role, you will lead by example, providing outstanding support to customers and visitors, encouraging them to explore our facilities, and helping them make the most of the resources available to achieve their full potential.

The Library Duty Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Library Evening Assistants and for supporting weekend library services alongside the Team Leader. The post-holder is also responsible for managing the library environment, overseeing health and safety, and handling all student enquiries relating to Library Services. Working closely with the Team Leader and Security staff, you will help manage the Library & Learning Environment during evening hours, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-run space for all users. 

The role is fixed-term until 20 September 2026, term-time only (39 weeks a year).

Your core shift pattern will be Mon-Thurs, term-time only.

  • Mon and Wed 4:45pm - 10:15 pm
  • Thu and Thu 3:45pm - 10:15 pm

You are expected to work during all term time opening weeks (incl. Bank Holidays). Occasional weekend work may be required so flexibility is essential.

About you:

  • You must be committed to putting customers at the heart of service delivery and supporting day-to-day library operations.
  • You should have excellent communication skills, be able to build excellent team-working relationships, and complete tasks to a high standard.
  • You need to respond calmly and professionally in busy situations.
  • You must be able to work independently, show initiative, and be flexible
  • Have experience of managing or supervising a small team
