The Opportunity:

You will undertake the Phase Three evaluation of North Strathclyde Bairns Hoose in partnership with the national children’s charity, Children First. You will undertake research with children who have been witness to or victim of violence and their families, among others, to track and capture children’s experience of advocacy and recovery support as they move through their care, protection and justice journeys with the North Strathclyde Bairns Hoose. 

This project is one of several evaluating Bairns Hoose across Scotland. You will work with research partners across the University of Edinburgh, University of Bedfordshire, Children First, North Strathclyde Bairns Hoose Partnership and other Bairns Hoose partners across Scotland. 

As the post involves undertaking research with children affected by maltreatment it requires:

  • Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) Registration
  • Home Country Criminal Record Check

The post will require national travel, and potential international travel for knowledge exchange.

This post is fixed-term (from 1 October 2025 until no later than 30 September 2026) and part-time (28 hours per week). 

The salary for this post is at Grade UE07: £41,064 to £48,822 per annum pro-rata.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • An appropriate postgraduate degree, with relevant post-graduate research experience. Normally a PhD or substantial research experience.
  • Experience in undertaking mixed methods research and /or qualitative research, and of undertaking a systematic literature review.
  • Previous research experience in the field of children and young people affected by abuse or involved in social work services.
  • Advanced knowledge about the issues impacting on children and young people who have experienced or witnessed abuse or violence, and of the issues impacting effective multiagency working in care and protection.
  • Advanced methodological expertise in how to document, monitor and evaluate mixed method or qualitative research.
