The role

The University of Bristol wishes to recruit a highly skilled & qualified graduate/post-graduate to lead and deliver a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with Tods Technology. Tods is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of advanced composite structures for the marine defence industry that is situated on the Isle of Portland located on Dorset’s beautiful Jurassic Coast (where you will be based). This position is funded through the KTP programme of the UKRI and includes a £4,000 training budget and 10% of your time dedicated to your personal development. You will have access to the University’s USS pension scheme, with generous employer contributions.

This KTP project will develop a new process for designing and manufacturing advanced polymer materials for the marine defence sector. As a KTP Associate you will work at Tods Technology’s manufacturing site on Portland to embed new knowledge using research and academic support from the University through this innovation project. You will be able to apply your degree in real world applications with the role providing an introduction to industrial and commercial work whilst retaining links to academia.

What will you be doing?

  • The project will develop a new process for designing and manufacturing advanced composite/polymer materials for the marine defence sector.
  • You will be the project lead, managing your own workload and ensuring outputs, including leading on meetings and workshops.
  • Direct problem-solving activities and your own learning.
  • You’ll have creative freedom to suggest changes and develop the project plan.

You should apply if

  • Eligibility to obtain M.O.D. Security Clearance (SC). British passport holder with 5 years of continuous UK residency.
  • Higher degree in either Engineering or Chemistry (PhD preferred).
  • Strong chemical formulation skills.
  • Strong background in chemical or physical sciences or polymer engineering.
  • Ability to work with molecular modelling packages is highly desirable.
