The Role

Are you passionate about working with data and using it to improve processes and decision-making in a dynamic higher education environment? This is an exciting opportunity to join the University as part of the Student Data Management (SDM) team. 

Working closely with the Associate Director and Head of Student Data, you will have experience of leading through change and delivering service transformation. Your analytical skills and attention to detail will help drive continuous improvement across our student data processes.

You’ll combine a strong vision with practical leadership and operational expertise, and be confident working in a dynamic, collaborative and supportive environment.  

About You

You will have strong analytical skills and confidence working with large datasets, able to summarise and present results in the most appropriate format for the given audience. You will act as member to various University Groups, advising and contributing through a sound understanding of relevant guidance, the provision of analysis and the monitoring of progress towards the achievement of planned priorities.

With experience of leading a team, ideally in a Higher Education setting, your understanding of the of the sector will support the delivery of positive student outcomes. You will have knowledge of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the methodologies of League Tables and develop intelligence on performance against competitors. Your understanding of the market and labour analyses will inform portfolio planning using comparative performance reports, such as thresholds and benchmarking.

You will source a variety of quantitative internal and external data, undertake analysis of that data and determine the most appropriate use of mathematical modelling, complex statistical analysis and visualisation techniques, to create accessible and easily interpreted results that are robust, credible and able to withstand scrutiny at the highest levels of the organisation.

You will also demonstrate a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and high-quality service in line with regulatory and University data governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a high performing team including data analysts, management information report writers and timetabling/space management. You will maintain a supportive and inclusive environment, driving personal development across the team.

Produce recommendations for enhancement and change within the University based on sector best practices around data and evaluation methods, including the software and tools used.

Understand the requirements of the Access and Participation Plan (APP) process, including analysis to identify performance gaps across the student lifecycle, such as the combination of student characteristics.

Use predictive analytic tools such as student number projections to inform planning and student number returns; capturing targets for future performance against core KPIs; supporting the institutional strategic / operational planning process, including participating in external activities to identify good practice to improve the University’s planning function.

Support university wide projects such as the Workload Allocation Model implementation and business analysis tasks to improve cross departmental data processes and practices.

Be a champion of data protection and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, Prevent).
