The University of Greater Manchester is a vibrant and ambitious institution, dedicated to providing an outstanding student experience and satisfaction. With a strong commitment to graduate employability, innovation, and inclusive education, the University has established a reputation as a dynamic and supportive place to work and study.
Our professional services teams play a crucial role in supporting this mission, and we are proud to foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Procurement and Insurance Officer to join the University’s Finance Office on a fixed-term basis.
The postholder will provide expert advice and support across all areas of procurement and insurance during a period of staff absence. You will oversee procurement activity, ensuring the University achieves value for money, complies with relevant legislation, and maintains transparent and ethical processes.
The role also has responsibility for managing the University’s insurance portfolio, ensuring adequate cover, managing claims effectively, and safeguarding institutional risk. In addition, you will play a key role in delivering strategic procurement projects, including the rollout of new policies and procedures, and help stakeholders identify compliant alternative solutions that balance organisational requirements with business needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to make a tangible impact by influencing purchasing behaviors, driving compliance, and strengthening procurement and insurance practices across the University.
You will be an experienced procurement professional with a strong understanding of UK procurement legislation, tendering and contract management, and practical knowledge of insurance matters. Educated to degree level (or equivalent) and ideally a member of a relevant professional body, you will bring excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence change and build positive relationships across the University. Proactive, organised and solutions-focused, you will be confident working independently to tight deadlines while promoting accountability and best practice. Experience of introducing new purchasing solutions, such as purchasing cards or Amazon Business, would be an advantage.
The Finance Office provides high-quality financial services and support across the University. The team is committed to ensuring sound financial governance, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and the effective management of resources.
This role will contribute directly to strengthening procurement practices, enhancing supplier management, and ensuring that the University’s insurance arrangements are robust, efficient, and fit for purpose.
The University of Bolton strives to achieve equality of opportunity
