Background

The new School of Communication and Creativity brings together our renowned Department of Journalism with two new Departments of Performing Arts and Media, Culture and Creative Industries. The School supports and develops the next generation of practitioners to work across the cultural, creative and media sectors.

Responsibilities

The role involves delivering one-to-one coaching, wellbeing support, developing resources, and embedding performance strategies into the curriculum. You will collaborate with staff and support services, track student progress, analyse data to improve outcomes, and liaise with industry professionals.

The post also includes administrative tasks such as maintaining records, scheduling, and reporting. A strong commitment to equality, student welfare, and professional development is essential, alongside participation in university-wide events and initiatives.

Person Specification

We are seeking a qualified and motivated professional with a strong foundation in coaching, mentoring, or a related field, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by performing arts students, including creative pressure and performance demands. You will have proven experience coaching or advising performing arts students or professionals, as well as delivering performance-focused workshops or group sessions.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support students. You will demonstrate flexibility in managing a varied workload, show discretion when handling sensitive matters, and work well both independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a confident approach to using digital tools is required.

A recognised coaching body certification or membership is desirable, as is familiarity with higher education systems such as SITS or Moodle. A strong commitment to equality, diversity, and City St George’s values is essential.
