Salary: Grade A68: £84,374 – £108,666 per annum (pro-rata)

Applications are invited for an Academic Lead for Primary Care Educational Scholarship, to work with Professor Sophie Park, the Undergraduate Primary Care Medical Education team, and Workforce and Learning Research Group. The role is part time and includes 6 teaching sessions per week.

The successful applicant will provide academic leadership for strategic development of educational scholarship in primary care. The postholder will inform the professional development and educational expertise of those involved in teaching within NDPCHS, and ultimately the learning experience of students. This will include quality improvement and theory-informed evaluation of education. The postholder will also co-ordinate and support development of an educational community of practice across the department to exchange and develop relevant knowledge about scholarship and teaching approaches. This will include capacity building for those wishing to get involved in teaching, and development of expertise for those engaged in teaching, for example through the Higher Education Academy Fellowship programme. Responsibilities will include working closely with the Director of Primary Care Undergraduate Studies and Workforce and Learning Research Group Lead. The post-holder will have responsibility for: 

  • Strategic input into educational scholarship growth and sustainability within the department.
  • Developing a Community of Practice for Primary Care Education in NDPCHS.
  • Leading Primary Care Clinical Education Quality Improvement and Scholarship activities.
  • Support the professional development of NDPCHS staff in educational expertise and scholarship.
  • Support the sustainable delivery of Education delivered within the NDPCHS.

You will be medically qualified, ideally with experience in General Practice. You will have a commitment to academic primary care and scholarship and experience as educational research, including a track record of relevant publications. You will hold a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field of Clinical Education Research or scholarship. You will ideally have experience supporting the professional development of staff through programmes such as the Higher Education Academy (HEA) programme and experience teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate learners in General Practice or Primary Care.

You will be based in the Gibson Building, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work/but there may be the opportunity for occasional remote working. You may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.

The position is permanent but subject to the usual probationary requirements.
