The pathway champions technical and technology education delivery and innovation. It recognises the outstanding contribution our technical colleagues play in driving transformational education and outcomes for our students. The ETP promotion pathway provides a clear framework for technician development. ETPs work collaboratively with our academic colleagues to provide a comprehensive education to shape a learning environment when our students and colleagues can flourish.

You will contribute to the delivery and innovation of technical and technology education in multimedia production. This critical activity spans two of our schools, the School of English and the School of Digital Arts (SoDA). You will be supporting students who are looking for careers in journalism and the creative media industries. You will initially focus on multimedia journalism and future media production to deliver key production process and practical skills aligned to industry standards. 

The role involves overseeing state-of-the-art media facilities that support specialist sectors such as podcasting, video journalism, and areas like sports and music journalism. You will focus on technical and technology education for production processes including the creation and delivery of content across diverse platforms streaming, mobile, and traditional channels including TV and radio broadcasting. Central to the role is ensuring access to the latest production techniques and technologies, such as pre-visualisation and virtual production, to drive innovation and enhance media practice. You will play a crucial role in the development of the University's Digitally Enhanced Learning, Teaching and Assessment (DELTA) Strategy to expand our digital learning offer.  

Appointment Details 

Education Technical Professional (Multimedia Production): £40,497 to £46,735 

You will:

  • Deliver innovative and impactful technical and technology focused education 
  • Provide an excellent student experience tailored to different learning requirements 
  • Adopt a people-centric, collaborative and inclusive style, providing leadership when required
  • As part of the education team be a key contributor to skills training innovation, designing, developing and delivering inductions, demonstrations and skills training 
  • Work as part of the team, act as a key contributor to technical & technology education development and innovation 
  • Assess student's practical competence
  • Analyse local student performance and satisfaction data to determine impact and enhance future provision  
  • Influence the introduction of new technology, and utilise existing technology in new or innovative ways for the benefit of education 
  • Complete a range of routine and complex maintenance activities and repairs, liaising with suppliers and manufacturers to as required 
  • Support specialist space use prioritisation at School/Department level to achieve maximum student benefit. 

You will bring:

  • Extensive skills, knowledge and experience in technical and technology education
  • Substantial experience of working as a technician or technologist
  • Experience of designing, developing and delivering a wide range of technical and technology educational content (e.g. inductions, skills training and associated materials) to an excellent standard resulting in enhanced student outcomes and satisfaction 
  • The ability to interpret, evaluate and analyse data to inform concepts and ideas  
  • An understand and the ability to apply teaching, learning and assessment practices 
  • Experience of influencing and introducing new technology, or using existing technology in new or novel ways resulting in enhanced outcomes/satisfaction.
