Role Summary

The School of Medical Sciences, Birmingham Medical School is looking for two part time Clinical Tutors (0.2 FTE) for a fixed term who will contribute to the delivery of the Community Based Medicine (CBM) Clinical Teaching Days. This is an excellent opportunity to join the CBM team and help shape innovation in medical education and inspire the next generation of doctors. This role may be particularly attractive to sessional or portfolio GPs.

Community Based Medicine is a strand in the MBChB programme where medical students learn about medicine from a General Practice perspective. The majority of the teaching that students receive occurs on placement in General Practices across the West Midlands and beyond. Find out more here: https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/medical-school/community-based-medicine/index.aspx. These posts have arisen due to an increase in student numbers and a consequent redesign of placement delivery.

The focus of the role is the development and facilitation of small group teaching sessions for CBM Clinical Teaching Days which are based on Campus at the University of Birmingham. Clinical Tutors will primarily be involved in the delivery of the Year 3 CBM course within the MBChB programme. The focus of the small group sessions is currently around early childhood and long-term conditions. There may also be the opportunity the deliver lectures to the final year students and support small group sessions on professional communication. Post holders will also contribute to the development of the teaching materials and undertake a full range of responsibilities in relation to organising teaching sessions, student supervision, marking and examining. This will be under the supervision of the senior academic CBM team.
