The central purpose of the UCL Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education (CCCSE) is to support teachers of all phases, subjects and career stages, including through a programme of professional development, to enable them to incorporate a focus on climate change and sustainability in their teaching in constructive, informed and empowering ways for young people. A key principle of the CCCSE is that its work will be informed at all stages by rigorous research which extends and deepens existing research within climate change and sustainability education.

About the role

The CCCSE is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow at .40FTE, initially funded until 31 July 2026.

The successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of qualitative methodologies, which should include interviews with one or more of the following groups: children, young people, teachers, headteachers, teacher educators and/or senior policy makers, and working with and analysing interview data. Experience with quantitative or mixed methods studies, including undertaking surveys, will also be beneficial. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to be an active member of the broader CCCSE team, assisting in the development of research proposals, contributing to and leading writing projects and contributing to a vibrant programme of stakeholder engagement and impact activities.

About you

The successful candidate will have PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area of education. You will have proven knowledge and experience of research techniques in educational research, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies. In addition, you will have familiarity with research in climate change and sustainability education, and evidence of a publication record in this field.
