The Governing Body of Magdalene College expects to elect two stipendiary (Junior) Research Fellows with tenure for three years from 1 October 2026.
1. The Nevile Fellowship, endowed through the generosity of Trinity College, Cambridge, will be in one of the following subject areas: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematical Physics.
2. The Lumley Fellowship, endowed through the generosity of the late H R L Lumley,will be in one of the following subject areas: Sociology, Politics, Education, Law, Social Anthropology and Criminology.
The candidates will be expected to present original research. Details can be found inthe further particulars document. Please note that candidates who applied in the 2024-25 round are not eligible for this competition.
Applications are invited from graduates from any university. This is an early career appointment. Candidates should be either graduate students in the final stages of their research and writing leading to a PhD, or post-doctoral researchers who have recently been awarded their PhD degree.
The current gross stipend (2025-26) for a Lumley and Nevile Research Fellow is £30,345 p.a. The (Junior) Research Fellows may take advantage of single accommodation in College and will receive dining privileges. There is no payment in lieu of accommodation or meals not taken.
