Research Assistant

About the role

The RA will contribute to the ethics and data management protocol development, data management and governance on Data Safe Haven, keeping track of project timelines on Gantt chart, and overall project coordination by working closely with co-leads (Prof Lakhanpaul and Prof Svirydzenka) and other project collaborators at UK HEs, Institute of Health Visiting, third sector organisations, and participants in England. There will be a requirement for the individual to engage across the team and stakeholders, prepare presentation and communication materials, alert to upcoming deadlines, manage data in line with ethics and DPIA protocols, support analysis of data and prepare reports and articles for publication. They will also be responsible for working with the co leads to collate information and prepare the NIHR Program bid. The salary offered in this post is £39,807 per annum pro rata and is funded until 28 February 2027 in the first instance.

About you

The successful candidate will hold a higher degree in a relevant subject matter with a research component (social sciences, housing, health) and some experience of working on the topic of homelessness, health inequalities, or migration to support the relevant sensitivity of approach required in this project. A high degree of cultural sensitivity is required for the post holder in line with the topic of research, exploring parenting needs of refugee and asylum-seeking families in the UK while living in temporary accommodation and experiencing homelessness. It is key that the successful candidate is self-motivating and proactive in setting objectives and engaging with the project team; able to reflect on feedback and implement changes in situ. We are looking for a person that will be committed to the project and subject matter, able to communicate across different stakeholders (academic, third sector, and families and children experiencing homelessness) in both writing and verbally. The project comprises several work packages, so the successful candidate must show excellent organizational track record, successful management of deadlines, and work planning. They will need to be skilled in qualitative and quantitative research methods to support project team in preparing research documents and contributing to relevant procedures and analyses.
