Research Assistant / Associate

This post is full time and has funding available until 30 November 2027.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant / Associate to contribute to / make a leading contribution to the EPSRC UK Hub for Quantum Enabled Position Navigation and Timing (QEPNT), part of the UK’s flagship National Quantum Technology Programme.

Working with Dr Kevin Gallacher and Professors Marc Sorel and Douglas Paul, the focus of this post is to develop a silicon photonic integrated circuit platform that consists of integrated III-V gain chips, MEMS vapour cells and detectors to reduce the size, weight, power and cost of atomic devices such as clocks and magnetometers.

This will require a broad suite of expertise ranging from device simulation, fabrication and experimental characterisation.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals, as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.

For appointment at grade 7, post-doctoral experience in the areas listed above would be required.
