Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year.

Main duties and responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated and proactive Lecturer with expertise in microbiology to join our existing Bioscience team and contribute to the ongoing development of this group. 

The successful applicant for this post will work within the Bioscience, Agriculture, and Nutrition Subject Group in developing and delivering existing undergraduate and postgraduate modules on Bioscience Programmes and may contribute to the delivery of other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. There is some flexibility in the teaching contribution, but it will include: microbial physiology, antimicrobial resistance, microbial biotechnology, microbial genetics, eukaryotic/prokaryotic cell biology as required.

You will be responsible for designing engaging teaching activities to support students learning, curriculum revision and development of new and existing modules including teaching and assessment and attending committee meetings and working groups as required. 

Skills and Experience required

You will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the field of Microbiology to work within established teaching programmes, alongside an understanding of students’ prior learning experiences and how these might influence their current educational expectations and have appreciation of the educational needs of students. You will be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, be proficient in English language and be able to communicate effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues. 

You must be able to deal with conflicting demands and priorities and possess excellent organisation and planning skills, supported by excellent written and verbal communication skills and IT Skills. The successful candidate should be motivated to teach in an environment that is dynamic and be open to innovation. 

You will be committed to reflective practice and continual improvement as well as a commitment to issues related to equality, diversity and inclusion. Relevant teaching experience and academic administration in Higher Education in the field of Microbiology would be an advantage.

Qualifications required

Educated with a minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Biomedical Science, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
