The Role

Maynooth University seeks an outstanding academic to join our staff as an Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education. The person appointed will have an excellent record in research, in teaching and educational innovation, mentorship and in academic leadership. They will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching, research and profile of the university, and to provide ongoing leadership for the discipline. The lecturer in early childhood education will have an excellent track record in the development of education programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Early childhood education is an important strategic development area for the Froebel Department in line with the ambitions of the Maynooth University Strategic Plan 2023-2028 and the ongoing research and funded work in the broader area of education. This lecturer will work to consolidate existing activity and support the development of research and teaching in the Froebel Department.

Salary Scale:

Assistant Professor/Lecturer: €64,753– €102,539 p.a. (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer: €42,099– €71,998 p.a. (14 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential

  • Doctorate in an appropriate discipline;
  • Specialist research interests suited to the field of early childhood education;
  • An excellent record as an educational innovator in early childhood education;
  • An excellent understanding of child development;
  • Experience working with children in the early years;
  • Experience in curriculum and pedagogy in early childhood education;
  • A strong academic record in teaching and research in early childhood education;
  • Experience of and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; programme development and academic innovation;
  • Experience of, and commitment to, working in an interdisciplinary setting;
  • Good administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills.
