Job Summary
Innovative, inclusive and professionally-focused, Robert Gordon University (RGU) has developed its strategy and principles to focus on the significant strengths, often unique in the UK, that underpin our demand-led, transformational teaching, learning and research.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and competent Research Assistant to join the School of Health research team for a one-year period to support ongoing research. You will work across several projects including: i) a qualitative study exploring the information needs of women with learning disability on breast cancer screening; ii) a mixed methods (surveys & interviews) study exploring healthcare professionals views of palliative care services for people with Parkinson’s. You may also provide support to ongoing projects and the development of new funding applications.
RGU has five interdisciplinary research themes, each led by a theme champion. Research in the School of Health contributes predominantly to the themes of: Health & Wellbeing; Living in a Digital World, and Education Research. The School of Health has a vibrant and growing multi-disciplinary research culture, and benefits from cross-school and external collaborations. Research in the School of Health is applied and practical in nature and falls within four broad themes of: Health & disease across the lifespan; Health services research; Evidence synthesis; Applied educational research. Health inequalities, digital health & care, and musculoskeletal health are key areas of focus within the school, with a range of methodologies employed.
Research in the school is funded by range of funders including EU, NIHR, CSO, NHS, and UK Charities and Industry. Current projects include research on palliative stages of Parkinson’s, information needs of women with learning disability on routine breast cancer screening, mental health in young people, and preoperative interventions for people waiting for surgery. The school also has a strong track-record in evidence synthesis and hosts the JBI Scottish Centre for Evidence Based Practice. The School also hosts the North of Scotland hub of the Council for AHP Research (CAHPR)and actively contributes to the North East Scotland Network for Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions Research (NoSCAR).
The School provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in Diagnostic Radiography, Midwifery, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Paramedicine. Applications from qualified health professionals are particularly welcome, as are applications from individuals with qualifications and experience relevant to applied health research.
In keeping with RGU's commitment to work/life balance you will have the opportunity to work from home for a portion of the working week and also benefit from a generous pension scheme, 46 days annual leave (including statutory days) an onsite nursery and sports centre, as well as a range of voluntary health and travel benefits.
We are committed to attracting and engaging a diverse range of staff and fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome, comfortable to express their ideas, and can reach their full potential. For more information, please visit Our Diverse Workforce pages.
