Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education)

Oxford Brookes University

Competitive Salary, 12-month FTC

Oxford Brookes University is a modern and forward-thinking institution rooted in, and connected to, a city with a rich history of culture and learning. We focus on providing high-quality teaching, delivering impactful research and offering an excellent student experience.

We are now seeking to appoint a Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This senior leader will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our educational ambitions at a time of energy and momentum for the University. The appointment is being made on a fixed-term basis as the University, under the leadership of our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Laville, undertakes a period of review and reflection on its long-term structure and priorities. This role will ensure that education remains at the forefront of our strategy during this transitional period and that momentum is maintained on critical initiatives. Professor Laville has joined a community in good health, buoyed by strong strategic decisions over the past 18 months and a successful round of recruitment this year. Together, we are looking ahead with confidence and purpose.

This is not a business-as-usual appointment. The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) will work with pace and determination to define and strengthen the Brookes edge, the distinctive quality of our educational offer, over the next 12 months. Accountable to the Vice-Chancellor for the University’s programmes of study, academic standards, teaching quality and student outcomes, the role will drive forward innovation in teaching and learning, champion student success and employability, ensure rigorous quality assurance, and shape the University’s academic portfolio for the future. The postholder will also play a key role in enhancing Oxford Brookes’ national and international reputation for education.

We are seeking an accomplished and credible academic leader with a strong track record in teaching, scholarship and/or research, and experience of leading in a complex organisational setting. You will bring the ability to think strategically, inspire colleagues, and act with authenticity and confidence. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious leader to make a substantial and lasting contribution in a pivotal role.

If you have the vision, experience and leadership qualities to help us define and deliver the Brookes edge, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Closing date: noon on Friday 26 September 2025.

At Oxford Brookes, inclusivity is one of our five guiding principles: we take positive steps to create an environment in which we celebrate, value and provide equal opportunity to all. We are committed to recruiting from the widest possible pool and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates who embrace our values, regardless of their background.

As a Disability Confident Employer we guarantee to interview any disabled applicant who meets the essential selection criteria
