We are seeking a Building Services Technician to join the team in the Department of Plant Sciences.
The successful candidate will carry out internal and external repairs, alterations and installation of services/ equipment for the department to support of the effective operation and day to day upkeep of Department facilities. A driving licence is required as there will be some driving between sites required.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Undertake breakdown and preventative maintenance for department plant (heating, ventilation, cooling etc.) and equipment, investigate reported problems, liaise with others to identify the nature of the reported fault, diagnose faults, test run plant if necessary, decide on remedial action and complete repairs either by self or contractors, keep staff informed of progress, ensure plant is reinstated in full working order.
Keep a record of the jobs/ work undertaken, time spent, materials used and for whom. Perform regular inspection of the computerised building management system to check for plant faults or failures, research into operation of plant, liaise with Estate Management/ Buildings Services Manager to remedy fault/failure. Occasionally explains operating and maintenance procedures to team members and/or others.
Carry out preventive maintenance including, liaise with Estate Management/Building Services Manager on the nature of the service being carried out and the effect on department operations. Inspect/service plant in line with Estate Management and manufacturer's instructions, report any circumstances arising that adversely affect work progress to Estate Management, keep record of job/work undertaken, time spent, materials used and to whom, report any follow up action.
