About the role
We are looking for a Research Associate to join our School of Chemistry, exploring quantum vortices in superfluids by using molecules as messengers. Our focus will be on small helium nanodroplets containing a few thousand helium atoms, a size which enables us to use optical spectroscopy to interrogate the molecular probe. This project will advance our understanding of quantum hydrodynamics in superfluids.
The project is led by an internationally leading research team with expertise in helium droplets, spectroscopy and nanoscience. The investigators have demonstrated their capabilities through previous work and have already conducted preliminary experiments to validate the feasibility of the approach. The apparatus, including the UHV helium droplet source, tuneable OPO laser and mass spectrometer, is fully operational, making the project both timely and cost-effective.
About you
With a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Nanoscience or a related discipline, you should have experience in with ultrahigh vacuum systems, cryogenics, and laser spectroscopy. This should be supported by evidence of research productivity, such as publications and presentations, particularly for relevant innovative research within the relevant field.
