About The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is an independent membership organisation concerned principally with the education, training and assessment of Surgeons, Dental Surgeons and Doctors who are involved in the surgical care of patients. Founded in 1505, the College currently has a membership approaching 30,000 in approximately 100 countries throughout the world.
About the Role
The Skills Centre Technician is a vital member of the Education Section, playing a hands on, dynamic role at the heart of our teaching and training activities. From high stakes exams to cutting edge skills courses, this is a role where no two days are the same. You'll be instrumental in bringing our courses and events to life — setting up surgical and clinical equipment, preparing anatomical models and specimens (including animal and cadaveric tissue), and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. You'll also assist faculty with AV setups and be the confident voice delivering essential health and safety briefings to course participants
Experience/Qualifications/Key Skills
We’re looking for someone with strong organisational skills and a methodical, conscientious approach to their work. You’ll be a good communicator who can work effectively with colleagues, faculty, and participants at all levels. Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are key.
While prior experience in a medical, scientific, or technical setting is desirable, it’s not essential. Full training and mentorship will be provided by the Skills Centre Manager and Senior Technician to help you excel in the role.
Working with us
At the College we aim to embrace views from across the organisation, sharing common goals and values for the betterment of healthcare through the advancement of surgical and dental professionals. We aim to develop teams that are reflective of the needs of our members and maximise the potential of every employee.
To reflect the varying needs across the organisation, we offer a range of policies and benefits for our workforce including a generous 42 days annual leave, flexible working practices (including hybrid working), enhanced employer pensions contribution and various discounts throughout the College including the Ten Hill Place Hotel, 1505 Café and free entry to Surgeons’ Hall Museums.
