Deputy Dean

Job Description:

The Deputy Dean helps to provide senior academic leadership at Global College Malta and is the deputy to the College’s Academic Dean.

The Deputy Dean provides day-to-day management of all College teaching, learning and assessment, as well as line managing all teaching staff. They lead on ensuring an excellent student experience at the College and work closely with the Academic Registrar on matters of academic regulations, policy and procedures.

They report directly to the Academic Dean and, as appropriate, provide support to the Chief Operating Officer in giving strategic leadership for the College and ensuring its academic excellence, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Deputise as necessary for the Academic Dean across the full breadth of their portfolio, leading on specific areas as requested. 
  • Day-to-day management of teaching, learning, and assessment at the College. 
  • Recruit, manage and develop all academic staff (full-time and adjunct), supporting professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Academic Dean in their responsibilities for quality assurance, standards and enhancement, for all programmes delivered and/or awarded by the College. 
  • Work closely with the Academic Dean and Academic Registrar in support of the College’s relationship with key regulatory bodies, including the Maltese Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA). This includes ensuring compliance of all academic activities in respect of any requirements set down by such authorities. 
  • Leadership and management of the student experience, working in partnership with the College’s Chief Operating Officer, to ensure an excellent experience for all students. 
  • To collaborate with the COO in ensuring that academic priorities are fully aligned with institutional resources, financial planning, and operational frameworks. 
  • Working closely with the Academic Registrar to ensure smooth delivery of academic administration and regulatory compliance. 
  • Actively embedding and promoting employability throughout the College and its programmes, supporting students to graduate with knowledge, skills and competences suitable for their future careers. 
  • Providing academic support for all College development initiatives and new business opportunities, including portfolio and partnership development. Contributing to the strategic planning of the College, as well as to wider Group initiatives. 
  • Participation in relevant College governance structures, making a particular contribution on all matters related to academic governance. 
  • Supporting the development and advancement of the College’s research and scholarship activities. 
  • Actively promoting the profile and development of the College both nationally and internationally. Supporting student recruitment activity to contribute to the College’s growth and sustainability. 
  • Supporting a culture of open and clear communication, continuous improvement and staff professional development within the College. Promoting a student-centric approach as well as the values of integrity, inclusivity and internationalisation in all aspects of College life amongst students and staff. 
  • Any other duty as may reasonably be required. 

Academic and Professional Qualifications

Strong Academic Background:

A good degree in a relevant discipline and a record of leadership in teaching, research, or professional practice. 

Higher Education Expertise:

A good knowledge of Maltese and European higher education policies and practices and a comprehensive understanding of higher education culture and governance. 

Strategic Vision:

The ability to formulate and implement strategy, contribute to the College’s vision, and operate effectively within a fast-moving organisational environment. 

Leadership and Management Skills 

Staff Leadership:

Proven experience in leading, managing, and developing staff, with the ability to inspire and empower others. 

Financial Management:

Substantial experience of budget planning and financial management, including the ability to manage budgets and contribute to financial strategy. 

Change Management:

Demonstrable ability to help lead organisational and cultural change, respond to external environments, and foster innovative approaches to academic delivery. 

Teamwork and Collaboration:

The ability to work flexibly as part of a team and build effective collaborations both internally and externally. 

Communication and Interpersonal Skills 

Communication:

Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex data and engage diverse audiences effectively. 

Renumeration:

The salary for this role will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
