We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Laboratory Technical Specialist to join the Institute of Transplantation (IOT) Biobank at the Freeman Hospital, part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to combine technical laboratory expertise with operational and compliance responsibilities in support of clinical biobanking and cutting-edge transplantation research.
You will support the IOT Biobank and contribute to the wider Transplant Immunology Research Group, as well as the NIHR Blood and Transplant Research Unit (BTRU) in Organ Donation & Transplantation — the UK's leading transplant research unit influencing both national and international clinical practice. You will have opportunities to participate in national meetings such as the British Transplantation Society Annual Congress.
The role demands excellent communication, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive, collaborative approach. Some out-of-hours work may occasionally be required.
The post holder should hold a BSc within the field of biological sciences, an equivalent qualification or experience.
The role is fixed-term, until 30 September 2026.
This post is based at the Institute of Transplantation (Freeman Hospital) within the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University. The IOT Biobank underpins world-leading research in transplantation immunology and organ preservation.
The post holder will also contribute to the NIHR Blood and Transplant Research Unit in Organ Donation & Transplantation (BTRU), co-hosted with the University of Cambridge. The BTRU is dedicated to improving donor organ assessment and maximising graft survival, providing an exciting and collaborative environment at the forefront of UK transplant research, (https://odt.btru.nihr.ac.uk/).
This provides an exciting environment and supportive collaborative community. Further details about the group can be found on:
