Are you passionate about economic principles and teaching? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to teach next year 2026.
Birkbeck Business School is looking to recruit a part-time, fixed-term Associate Lecturer to teach the undergraduate module:-
Economic Principles is a compulsory module for students enrolled on our foundation year degree programmes in economics and finance.
For most students it provides their first exposure to these disciplines - as such we are looking for someone who has the ability to communicate key concepts in economics and finance in an engaging way. Crucially this person must have a good understanding of the difficulties many students have when they first encounter such concepts.
The module also makes extensive use of real-world examples and data, to support critical engagement and practical understanding.
The appointed individual will possess sound knowledge of economics, and a commitment to student learning and academic development, and teaching experience at an introductory level, whether in universities or schools, would be particularly valuable.
The module is delivered through weekly three-hour teaching sessions. While these are designated as lectures the teaching should be highly interactive, including opportunities for students to interact both with the lecturer and each other.
This module is taught in two groups - as well as Birkbeck’s traditional evening class at 6pm, there will be a session at 2pm. The postholder may teach both sessions, or indicate which session is preferable.
If you have knowledge in these areas, and you are an excellent and innovative teacher with a track record of student engagement, and want to contribute to an impactful educational experience - apply with us at Birkbeck today.
