Bioengineering Assay Development Researcher (KTP Associate)

We are looking to appoint a Bioengineering Assay Development Researcher who will play a key role in our exciting Knowledge Transfer Project (KTP) that is developing a portable, rapid, point-of-care diagnostic device capable of performing complete blood counts without the need for laboratories or specialised personnel.

Main activities will include:

• Establish in-house cost effective and robust models to enable the diagnosis of infectious diseases.
• Develop models and processes to generate particular white blood cell populations to enable the development of detection processes.
• Understand and incorporate regulatory compliance into the design of microfluidic assays.
• Model and optimise the separation of blood cells and blood flow properties within microfluidic devices.
• Model and optimise red blood cell and platelet orientation under flow effect on signal processing.

Key attributes of the successful applicant (no more than 50 words) include:

• BSc and MSc or other Higher Degree in biology, bioengineering, biomedical sciences or biophysics (or closely related subject) with a focus on development of diagnostics or medical devices.
• Knowledge of microfluidic fabrication and sensor integration in microfluidics.
• Experience in assay development for blood sample preparation as well as experience planning and conducting complex experimental research projects.
• Strong communication skills with good written and verbal English, with ability to develop strong, effective relationships and work effectively with academic and industrial partners
• Enjoys responsibility and solving unexpected problems with commitment to continuous improvement.
