About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford as an Administrative Officer, based at the Old Road Campus Research Building.
This role is an integral part of the department’s administrative support team, providing high-quality assistance to senior staff, including the Head of Department, Head of Administration and Finance, and the Executive PA. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the department by managing inboxes, coordinating meetings and events, maintaining records, supporting financial processes, and assisting with travel arrangements.
You will act as the main point of contact for organising departmental seminars and events, working closely with colleagues across the University and providing flexible support to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day operations. As the role involves handling confidential and sensitive information, you will be expected to demonstrate discretion and professionalism at all times.
The post is offered on a full-time, fixed-term contract for 2 years, based at the Old Road Campus Research Building, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7DQ.
About you
You will have excellent organisational and administrative skills, with proven experience managing diaries and coordinating a busy workload to tight deadlines. A confident communicator, you will be able to build positive working relationships across the department and provide a welcoming and professional point of contact for staff and visitors alike.
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and organisational systems.
- Good numeracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to work proactively, showing initiative while also being a supportive team player.
Experience of working in a higher education or similar environment, and familiarity with financial systems such as Oracle, would be an advantage.
