This post is full time, and has funding for up to 2 years.
We are seeking a Research Associate in synthetic chemistry to join the UKRI funded MERLIN project (Molecular Engineering for Rapid Low-Cost Metabonomic Profiling and Metabolite Detection) where we are engineering new materials and developing new methods for small molecule sensing in blood, environmental samples, and other complex mixtures.
If you have a PhD in Chemistry, or related discipline, skills in multistep synthesis and an interest in supramolecular chemistry, this would be a great opportunity for you. The role involves the design, synthesis, and testing of molecular fluorophores and cavitands for sensing steroids and other small molecule metabolites in clinical samples, using high-throughput luminescence assays. There will also be opportunities to develop functional tests and tools from the assays with clinical partners, work on the synthesis and characterisation of a wide range of molecules to contribute to other collaborative projects, and support the training of the next generation of synthetic chemists.
The Bio Nano Sensing group is vibrant and dynamic group, typically consisting of 3-4 PhD students, 2-3 Post-Doctoral Researchers, as well as technicians, project students and visiting researchers. Our work crosses molecular and materials synthesis and analytical method development, and we collaborate with clinicians, environmental engineers and many others to deliver technologies to end users. We aim to provide an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative environment for researchers at all career stages. More information on the group, our labs and our projects can be found at pevelerlab.com, and informal enquiries are welcomed to william.peveler@glasgow.ac.uk.
