About the role

In this role you will contribute to a pioneering project focused on the development of phage-based diagnostic and treatment tools for Tuberculosis. This exciting opportunity is part of a collaborative initiative funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research and the Becky Mayer Centre for Phage Research, with partners including PBD Biotech and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia. You will lead research into the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in blood samples and the isolation of novel bacteriophages, contributing to the advancement of phage therapy and diagnostics.

The role involves working independently and collaboratively to achieve project milestones, disseminate findings through publications and conferences, and support the safe operation of laboratory facilities, including category 3 containment. You will also contribute to the wider research programme through mentoring, budget management, and engagement with international collaborators. This post offers the opportunity to be part of a vibrant research community tackling global health challenges through innovative science.

About you

You will hold a PhD in Biochemistry or Microbiology (or have submitted your thesis) and bring expertise in phage-based diagnostics, Mtb detection in clinical samples, and infection studies using cell lines. Your experience will include PCR and digital PCR techniques, and you will be confident in developing new analytical approaches. Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to continuous professional development are essential.
