Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The School of Engineering and Built Environment within the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow in Architectural Technology (with Housing Focus).

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to studio-based, digital, and housing-related teaching within Architectural Technology, alongside supporting the development of new Housing programmes at LJMU. You will join a supportive and ambitious Property and Built Environment team with expertise spanning Architectural Technology, Building Surveying, and Real Estate.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in housing, regeneration, sustainable development, digital innovation, or interdisciplinary design practice. The successful candidate will play a central role in design studio teaching, curriculum development, and research or scholarship, while helping shape the next generation of digitally literate, housing-aware graduates.

You will:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across Architectural Technology and related programmes.
  • Lead and contribute to modules in design studio, housing and regeneration, digital communication, or construction technology, depending on expertise.
  • Engage in curriculum development to support the growth of new Housing pathways and interdisciplinary opportunities.
  • Undertake research or scholarship that informs teaching and contributes to LJMU’s reputation in Architectural Technology, Housing, and the Built Environment.
  • Develop industry and professional networks, supporting student employability and collaborative projects.

The ideal candidate will hold (or be close to completing) a PhD or have equivalent professional experience and be able to demonstrate a record of high-quality teaching and/or scholarship. Professional body membership (e.g. CIAT, RICS, RIBA, CIOB) is desirable.

LJMU has created a new career pathway structure for academic staff, ensuring parity and recognition whether your strengths lie in research, scholarship, teaching innovation, leadership, or professional engagement. Applicants should apply against the Job Description that best reflects their strengths and expertise; on appointment, the pathway will be confirmed in line with experience.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and future.
