Research Associate / Senior Research Associate to work on the HL-LHC Upgrade of the CMS experiment

The role

The Particle Physics group of the University of Bristol (tinyurl.com/particle-bristol) UK, seeks a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join its team working on the HL-LHC upgrade of the CMS experiment at CERN. The successful applicant will focus on strengthening our involvement on the ambitious High-Granularity Calorimeter project, which forms an essential part of the upgrade to CMS. In particular they will play a leading role in algorithm emulator development and maintenance as well as coordinating the definition and testing of interfaces to the Level-1 Trigger system. It is anticipated the candidate will have to spend some time at CERN during testing periods.

What will you be doing?

Your key responsibilities will involve:

• Development of algorithm emulation software for trigger primitive finding
• Development of software tools for performance evaluation
• Integration testing preparation and operation
• Interface development and specification
• Supporting the wider activities of the Bristol CMS group

You should apply if

• You have (or about to obtain) a PhD in experimental particle physics or equivalent professional experience in the research area required.
• You have fluency in at least one programming language (C++ and/or Python).
• You have an interest in algorithm/emulator development for HL-LHC
• You have an interest in commissioning new detector back-end systems
