Moorfields Biobank, a HTA licenced research tissue biobank based at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, stores human eye tissue and biofluids for medical research into the causes of eye diseases. The successful candidate will work in a team led by Professor Marcus Fruttiger and will be responsible for the daily activities of the Biobank.
About the role
The Biobank Technician will provide day to day technical support in a range of activities associated with the Moorfields Biobank at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. The post, funded by Moorfields Eye Charity and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital, will include collecting, processing and storing human eye tissue samples, maintaining comprehensive and accurate sample records, ensuring all activities are carried out according to standard operating procedure, assisting the local HTA Licence Holder to carry out regular audits of collected / stored samples and other administrative duties required to support the wider team, including, ordering, general laboratory maintenance, writing SOPs, risk assessments, training facility users, invoicing etc.

About you
A BSc or MSc in a Biomedical science, experience working in a research laboratory, good awareness of the regulations on the use of human tissue for research (Human Tissue Act 2004), data management, information governance and research ethics approval, excellent IT skills, and an ability to effectively use new software or IT systems and the ability to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and work meticulously with attention to detail.
