Applications are invited for the position of Centre Manager for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Statistics and Machine Learning (StatML), a prestigious training centre jointly led by Imperial College London and the University of Oxford.

StatML is dedicated to training future leaders at the interface of statistics and machine learning, supporting cutting-edge research and real-world applications in artificial intelligence (AI). Students work on fundamental research and collaborate with academic and industry partners to tackle critical challenges across government, medicine, science, and technology. With around 80 students currently enrolled across multiple cohorts, the Centre is a vibrant and dynamic environment.

About the Role

As Centre Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the operational success of the CDT. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Centre’s activities, working closely with students, academics, and partners across both Imperial and Oxford.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing Centre budgets and accounts, providing regular financial reports
  • Overseeing all student administrative processes from recruitment to graduation
  • Organising student training programmes and Centre-wide events, including workshops and conferences
  • Supporting student wellbeing and facilitating engagement across the cohort
  • Maintaining and updating the Centre’s website and social media presence
  • Liaising with industrial and academic partners to support collaboration
  • Promoting the Centre and helping raise its profile both internally and externally

You will work in close partnership with the Oxford-based Centre Manager and will be a key contact point for all CDT-related matters. This role requires a high level of independence, initiative, and organisational skill.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a proactive and experienced individual with:

  • Proven experience in Higher Education administration
  • Strong project management skills and ability to deliver activities independently
  • An understanding of postgraduate research training and administration
  • Experience in event organisation and coordination
  • Budgeting and financial management experience, including data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
  • A friendly, approachable manner and confidence in supporting postgraduate students
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work flexibly as part of a small team

Desirable attributes include experience managing a CDT or similar research training programme, knowledge of academic financial systems, understanding of the UK Higher Education policy landscape, and familiarity with website content design and maintenance.
