The Babraham Institute is seeking an experienced individual to provide strategic leadership and oversight of its Genomics Facility. The postholder will be a recognised and active participant in the Genomics community, exemplified through engagement in conferences and community events.
The Head of Facility will oversee the delivery of advanced sequencing and library preparation services, encompassing short- and long-read sequencing, single-cell and bulk RNA-seq workflows, and comprehensive sample quality control. They will ensure that technologies are optimally deployed to support cutting-edge research across a broad range of biological applications.
The postholder will contribute to the strategic direction of the Institute by aligning Facility capabilities with evolving research priorities across our three strategic programme areas: Epigenetics, Immunology, and Signalling. This will include driving innovation within the Facility, contributing to the development of novel methodologies, and integrating emerging technologies.
In addition to supporting internal research, the Facility plays a key role in serving the commercial bioscience community on the Babraham Research Campus and beyond, through fee-for-service work, collaborations, and consultancies. The postholder will foster collaborations with internal research groups and cross-sector external partners to enhance the Facility’s impact and visibility.
The role includes supervision of a Genomics Specialist and regular liaison with Facility users to discuss the design and implementation of sequencing projects and to review data generated.
The postholder will demonstrate a service-oriented approach, supported by strong communication skills, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and dependable support to all users.
The Head of Genomics Facility is a Band 4 post. However, there is the opportunity for strong candidates who may not yet meet all the required skills and experience but demonstrate clear potential to meet the requirements. In such cases, the candidate will be appointed at Band 5 and a tailored development plan will be put in place to meet their individual training needs.
