The School of Nursing & Midwifery at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to recruit a Professor in Health and Social Care.

The successful candidate, at Professorial level, will have expertise in research, teaching and learning in health and social care, and will lead, support, and initiate collaborative research on a variety of projects. The postholder will bring research, teaching and learning expertise relevant to nursing and midwifery practice and will be expected to contribute to multiple research and capacity strengthening projects across the School / Faculty, further building on national and international collaborative links with health and social care services and service users and/or their families and carers.

The School is a leading centre for research and education nationally and internationally. Within the School we have three innovative research themes (Maternal and Child Health; Chronic Illness and Palliative Care; Education and Practice), which encapsulate lifespan health research from conception to end-of-life.

The School provides a range of innovative programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, which prepare nurses, midwives and healthcare professionals for leadership roles in clinical care, teaching, management and research. With approximately 3,500 students, the School has one of the most extensive portfolios of programmes of any nursing and midwifery school in the UK or Ireland.

The successful candidate at Professorial level must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Honours degree.
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline. (e.g. nursing, midwifery, medicine, pharmacy, public health, psychology, social sciences, health services research, or a related field).
  • Experience in: Health Services and Social Care research relevant to nursing and midwifery practice.
  • Sustained record of leading successful bids for competitive, peer-reviewed national or international grants or other awards with significant external peer reviewed research funding related to own area of health and social care expertise as a Principal Investigator over a sustained period.
  • Recognised international expert in health and social care as evidenced by a track record of, for example, invited presentations at national and international conferences, events, invited keynote and plenary lectures at conferences.
  • Research profile that complements the research priorities of the School and contributes to the School’s international profile.
  • Successful, sustained student supervision as primary supervisor normally at postgraduate/PhD level.
  • Experience of teaching students and in the supervision of students at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Evidence of making a positive contribution to the development of teaching.
  • Design and impactful delivery of a wider range of programmes or initiatives which support organisational priorities e.g. relating to EDI, widening participation, internationalisation, community outreach.
