The Role
You will be involved in delivering high quality teaching and providing high quality feedback to postgraduate Public Health students, supporting our students to succeed on their chosen course.
This role will appeal to those passionate about delivering high quality and challenging learning experiences, to enable students to thrive. You will work as part of a team to contribute positively to the student experience. You will also have the chance to develop professionally in a large, very busy, dynamic Institute.
We especially encourage applications from candidates with expertise in health improvement and promotion, health and human rights and/or global health responses, and all with expertise in public health in different international / national contexts. Applications from current public health practitioners seeking a fractional post would be particularly welcome.
The Team
You will be joining the Institute of Social Sciences, working closely with the Public Health course team, with the opportunity to contribute to other programmes of study, addressing current social science issues across a range of areas.
The Public Health team sits in the Sociology group within the institute and offers the opportunity to enhance the postgraduate student learning experience through student engagement with theoretical and methodological approaches and the application to real-world challenges.
The MSc Public Health course encourages students to explore the links between policy, evidence and practice and to address broad questions in healthcare. It is based on the social model of health, which considers a broad range of factors that influence physical and psychological health, wellbeing, illness and disease.
Sheffield Hallam University’s outstanding support for student success and progression has been awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and overall, 72% of the research submitted by Sheffield Hallam to REF2021 received the prestigious rating of ‘world leading’ (4*) and ‘internationally excellent’ (3*).
The real-world impacts of our research have been judged as outstanding, with 78% of our impact assessed as world-leading and internationally excellent.
We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.
You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined benefit pension schemes in the country.
If you are, or have been, a recent member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) directly prior to joining us, you can choose to opt out of the TPS and remain in the USS. Please contact the Pensions team to discuss options available.
The University may be able to sponsor the employment of international applicants in this role; this will depend on a number of factors specific to the individual applicant.
We welcome applications for job-share, part-time and flexible working arrangements.
