Pembroke College wishes to appoint a Postdoctoral Junior Research Fellow in Global Security. The appointment will be from November 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter for one year.
The post holder will contribute to the research project Contested Cross-border Spaces, Illicit Flows, and Order in the Contemporary World, funded by UK International Development via the Cross-Border Conflict Evidence, Policy & Trends (XCEPT) programme, and hosted by the Global Security Programme at Pembroke College. Under the direction of Dr Annette Idler, the Postdoctoral Fellow will support the collection, analysis, and visualisation of mixed-methods data – including satellite imagery and open-source intelligence – and will collaborate in the preparation of research publications and interactive digital outputs. There will be opportunities to co-author publications with the PI and to present research at international conferences.
Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil in Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, or a closely related discipline. They should have expertise in quantitative methods relevant to security studies, proficiency in R, and the ability to develop digital visualisations. Experience with satellite imagery or geospatial analysis is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary, team-based research.
The salary for the role is £38,700-£41,700 per annum. Benefits include lunch in Hall when the kitchens are open, access to the Senior Common Room, and membership of the USS pension scheme.
