About the role
This role offers an opportunity to join the newly-formed Division of Library, Culture and Heritage at University of Sussex, with a focus on developing and delivering impactful strategies to raise its profile across internal, local, national, and international audiences. The Senior Communications, Marketing and Audience Development Officer will help to expand and develop the promotion of our core activities, particularly the public programme and campus community events at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
This role will lead on developing the online and social media presence and will co-ordinate and manage agreements and collaborations with external partners. The role will involve building strong relationships with a range of external and internal contacts, leading on communication and storytelling.
Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts is an interdisciplinary arts hub connecting University of Sussex with wider regional, national and international arts communities. The centre presents a seasonal programme of performance, dance, live art, film, music, discussion & debate and digital practices.
Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts is guided by the values championed by Sir Richard Attenborough (former chancellor of University of Sussex) in his life and work: human rights, social justice, creative education and access to the arts for all.
About you
You are an experienced communications and marketing individual, with a confident working knowledge of the area of different art forms and experience of working with artists, creative professionals, producers and promoters.
You should have a passion for arts and culture, as well as the drive to engage audiences and create access to the arts for all. You will have demonstrable experience of copywriting and editing and experience managing the direction of photography or filming.
Understanding of the arts, culture and heritage sector in Sussex would be desirable but not essential.
About our Division
The Library, Culture & Heritage Division was established in 2024, consisting of the University of Sussex Library, the Keep archive service (in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council) and Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts – a multi-disciplinary arts centre. The newly formed Division is currently planning its strategic plan, making it an exciting time to join us.
