Technical Specialist in Materials Chemistry

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the research team of Distinguished Professor Carole Perry who performs research at the interfaces between chemistry, physics and bioscience. The technical specialist role is 0.7FTE. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of her research laboratories. They will provide technical services, including management of the laboratory equipment, have oversight of the Health and Safety requirements for the group and help manage research projects. The right candidate will also be directly involved with both the experimental and reporting aspects of research. An appreciation of, and co-ordination of the use of, research equipment is essential along with an appreciation for maintenance and servicing schedules as you will be the point of contact for both end users and engineers. Participation in general maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment and helping users with equipment bookings and stock control will form part of the duties. Some time will be allocated to supporting existing research projects in the group which at present include studies of fungal mycelia, antimicrobial peptides and peptide directed materials synthesis. This hands on role will suit someone with developed technical skills from a practical based scientific background with the ability to work closely with others. Some Health and Safety training would be advantageous. You will possess a good standard of general education with (ideally) at least three years of relevant experience, ideally in a HE environment, and be qualified to a minimum of NVQ3, City and Guilds Level 3, 2 A levels, ONC/OND or equivalent in a relevant subject.
