Senior Teaching Technician (Anatomy)

The School of Life Sciences invites applications from friendly, engaging, and enthusiastic individuals to join its dedicated Anatomy Technical Team. The successful candidate will become part of a small technical team within the Anatomy Suite, located at the Medical School (Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham), and will collaborate closely with technical, academic, administrative colleagues and clinical colleagues.

The post holder will deliver high-quality, timely support to the Anatomy Suite facilities, working with a high degree of autonomy. They will hold primary responsibility for supporting all aspects of anatomical teaching and training for undergraduate and postgraduate learners, including surgical training courses, ensuring the delivery of consistently high standards. Key duties will include the handling, movement, and care of human cadaveric specimens, as well as the management of additional teaching and training resources. The post holder will also provide direct support to the Anatomy Suite Manager in the embalming process and the preparation of prosected materials, as required. Further responsibilities involve contributing to the daily operation and maintenance of the Anatomy Suite, including overseeing the monitoring and preservation of cadaveric material—such as whole cadavers, prosected specimens, and museum pieces—and maintaining accurate and compliant documentation, including audit records. All work must be conducted in full accordance with the Human Tissue Act (2004) and all applicable laboratory health and safety regulations

Applicants should possess a strong foundational knowledge of human anatomy and, ideally, prior experience in cadaveric embalming and dissection. Experience in a relevant technical or laboratory-based role is essential, with evidence of well-developed organisational skills, excellent interpersonal communication, and proficiency in information technology. A sound understanding of the Human Tissue Act is highly desirable, as is previous experience working within an Anatomy Suite (dissecting room) or a comparable setting.

This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours are full-time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
