The Ashmolean Museum, the world’s first public museum and part of the University of Oxford, is seeking to appoint a Security Officer to join its dedicated team. This is an extraordinary opportunity to play a central role in safeguarding priceless collections, protecting colleagues and visitors and enabling the smooth running of one of the world’s most respected cultural institutions.
Your responsibilities will include: protecting collections, staff, visitors and volunteers through vigilant patrols, dynamic assessments and proactive security measures, monitoring and managing advanced technical systems, including CCTV, access control and life safety systems and acting as a first responder to incidents and emergencies, remaining calm and professional while taking swift and effective action. This is a varied and challenging role that requires initiative, responsibility and teamwork. No two days are ever the same. You will balance protecting world-class collections with being a professional, approachable presence for the many people who come through the Museum’s doors
This is a permanent part-time post, working 30 hours per week, on a rota including early and late shifts, plus on-call duties
Please note that this post is subject to checks necessary for the successful post holder to have a Known Consignor status. You will therefore be required to provide employment and/or education history going back for a full 5 years in your application, as well as a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Due to working in restricted and sensitive areas, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
