It was one of the first UK universities to actively research into these areas, back in the Department of Electronic System Engineering (ESE). In the recent Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF’2021), CSEE ranks the 6th in the UK for our research power and the 9th for our research impact (by Grade Point Average).

You will be appointed as a Senior Research Officer at the University of Essex with a fixed term to 31 March 2026 and will work for successful delivery of the Legend6G project which is part of the TITAN Telecommunication Hub. As a driving force of this project, you will work on developing a USRP-based testbed for suitable waveform designs for High Doppler communication Scenarios related to NTN. Also, you will lead physical layer-related research to Doppler Resilient Waveform Design with a specific focus on SAGIN.

The specific theoretical focus of the post is to lead on research topics related to Doppler Resilient waveform design, specifically AFDM and ZAK-OTFS. High Doppler with particular focus on space-air-ground integrated networks (SAGIN) and, in particular, on the design of new waveforms.

The successful candidate will be expected to have the skills and knowledge in the areas of wireless communications, especially in high Doppler communications scenarios related to NTN, with focus on AFDM, ZAK-OTFS and other related waveform designs. You will have strong MATLAB simulation skills and the ability to conduct world-leading research and contribute towards completing the project deliverables and preparation of project proposals.

Record of research output, mostly in relevant international journals and conferences and a track record in proposal writing together with experience in working with USRPs are highly desirable. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential.

This post is fixed-term until 31 March 2026. Appointment is subject to funding approval.
