We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Senior Lecturer in Design to join the School of Design at Kingston School of Art. You will contribute to teaching, curriculum design, and research and/or knowledge exchange (KE) with a focus on design for planet and sustainable practices across the school.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive academic team, supporting our ambition to lead design education in shaping a regenerative, circular, and inclusive future. You will play a key role in expanding our teaching and research/KE activities aligned to pressing global agendas, working collaboratively across the School’s four departments (3D Design, Fashion, Illustration Animation and Graphic Design), and supporting future-facing curriculum and enterprise development.
The post will contribute directly to interdisciplinary teaching and collaborative projects and support our work with business and industry through knowledge exchange. The role sits within the 3D Department for line management purposes but is positioned strategically across the School of Design.
The Person
We are looking for a committed and imaginative design practitioner and/or educator who is passionate about using design to tackle real-world challenges. This includes creating solutions across products, services, systems, and experiences that respond to issues such as climate change, public health, education, economic inequality, and/or material innovation. Your back ground could be from any one of the following disciplinary and subject areas; 3D Design, Product Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Illustration, Fashion and interior Design or area close related to these.
You may be new to teaching in higher education, and we welcome applicants who are transitioning from professional practice. You should be able to demonstrate some experience of teaching or mentoring, or show a clear interest in developing this aspect of your practice. What matters most is your ability to apply your design expertise to real-world challenges and to support students in developing their own practice. Experience of interdisciplinary working and engaging with external partners is highly valued, along with a commitment to inclusive, reflective, and forward-thinking approaches to design education.
