The School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen’s University Belfast is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Mathematics to contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, particularly in the areas of Applied Mathematics and statistics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary team of academics dedicated to excellence in education, research, and student support. The School delivers a diverse portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to equip students with the analytical, computational, and problem-solving skills needed for successful careers in academia, industry, and beyond.

The postholder will play a key role in supporting the School’s teaching strategy through the development and delivery of innovative learning and assessment methods. This will include delivering lectures and tutorials, supervising undergraduate research projects, and contributing to computer-based teaching and assessment. The successful candidate will also engage in course administration, student advising, and outreach activities that promote engagement with the wider community.

Working closely with colleagues across the School, the Teaching Fellow will help maintain a dynamic and supportive learning environment, ensuring that all students benefit from an engaging, inclusive, and research informed educational experience. This role provides an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong communication skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a passion for mathematical education to make a meaningful contribution to the continued success of the School.

About the person:

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed educator with a passion for mathematics and a strong desire to contribute to the delivery of an excellent student learning experience. You will play an active role in teaching and assessment across the School’s undergraduate programmes, particularly in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, ensuring that students are supported, challenged, and inspired to achieve their full potential. To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Hold at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Applied Mathematics or Statistics (comparable to MSci, MMath or MSc).
  • Hold or be in the process of completing a PhD in Mathematical Sciences or Statistics.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to innovative, high-quality teaching, along with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively in English.
  • Excellent presentation, organisational, and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary academic team.

The ideal candidate will also bring experience in undergraduate teaching, course design, or curriculum development, and may hold a recognised teaching qualification such as the PGCHET or equivalent.
